For security purposes, the association settings are stored on the receiver, not the transmitter. These settings are stored in EEPROM memory and are not volatile. There is therefore no need to associate devices again when the batteries run out. Just substitute the receiver's battery, or in case of the remote control's battery, recharge by plugging into a PC or 5V USB wall wart.
